The Twitter takeover

The polls show that yes,.....the most popular social networking site amongst teens is Twitter! Studies show that 26% of U.S teens prefer Twitter as their social networking site, compared to Facebook and Instagram which tied for 23% (each). So why is this? “The key is that there are fewer adults, fewer parents and just simply less complexity and less drama,” [says] Amanda Lenhart of the Pew Research Center, one of the study’s authors. “[Teens] still have their Facebook profiles, but they spend less time on them and move to places like Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr.” Type in "Facebook losing popularity" and you will find TONS of articles. The fact is, people are starting to think of Facebook as a chore, an almost mandatory requirement ( well more of a "unwritten" social rule). This mindset is leading teens to Twitter, where they won't have to "friend" mom and dad, or deal with never ending Facebook drama. Personally, I haven't jumped on the Twitter bandwagon, but I can understand why so many people have. On Twitter, you can connect with your favorite celebrities and brands...it's more personal, yet less formal than Facebook. As Facebook's popularity continues to decrease, and Twitter's continues to rise I have to ask myself....will Twitter become the new Facebook?-M&M

  1. I'd like to see Twitter overtake Facebook. Although we don't need another movie about the creator of a social network. See what I did there?

  2. I can see it becoming the new big thing amongst teens. We always seem to move from one thing to another; from MySpace to Facebook and now Twitter. We are always looking for what suits our needs the best, and right now it's Twitter. I feel it has already become the Facebook; but for how long it'll stay that way, your guess is as good as mine.

  3. Personally, I only use Twitter to follow people, not Tweet. I might be slow in this social networking thing, but so far, I've stuck to Facebook. Then again, I don't really use Facebook much either. It would be pretty neat to see Twitter overtake Facebook though, interesting to see that what was once hard to believe, happen.

  4. It does look like Twittter is going to become the new big social media trend. I guess people really like how easy it is to follow and interact with all sorts of people.

  5. I personally use twitter and instagram to post images or updates on the go. So I'm not surprised why they're taking over Facebook's job. Facebook will still exist for communicating with people. But when it comes to a news feed of people's activities, Facebook is loosing its touch.

  6. I think it is quite true how twitter is one of the most popular social media sites. Twitter never dies. Many social media sites always lose their popularity and disappear in the wind, like myspace! I think twitter is still popular up until these day because you can express yourself and complain about things.... You also get updates from many things easily. For many people, they can also connect to celebrities they like since many celebrities have twitter accounts. I hope twitter will stay this way and don't fade away like myspace.
