The perks of internet

Can anyone imagine what life was like before the internet? It seems like such a trivial question, but whenever I imagine the pre-internet era, I automatically think of 2000 BC, the age of Stonehenge. I know it may be ridiculous, but thinking of life before internet seems "virtually" impossible! Internet is something that is taken for granted. I didn't truly realize this until this summer. I was trying to see some of my friends over in Europe, and the only way I was able to make plans with them was through email. I was so happy to see them, but I realized that without the help of technology, seeing them would've been impossible! In fact, my friendships would cease to exist. It would have taken too long to send letters, and to expensive (and difficult) to communicate over the phone with them (plural). Realistically, the chances of seeing them (if the internet didn't exist) would be slim to none. Yes, communicating with one person perhaps...but with a group of people? Absolutely not. The internet has changed lives, relationships and social interaction, and I for one have experienced this first hand! Today, I have friends all over the world that I can talk to any time of day thanks to group chat, email, Skype etc. It's pretty remarkable how something so small can make such a big difference. Although this post is definitely cheesy, I have to say that the internet HAS changed my life, without it I wouldn't have had the experiences, friendships and connections I have today. So, the next time you're complaining about the computer lagging, or the WiFi being slow...just think how much slower paced life would be without it.

  1. I think we've all been conditioned to use the internet whenever because it's always there whenever we want it. It's easy, accessible, and convenient. Taking it away would not only disrupt our lives, it would be taking away a big part of it. Since we depend on it so much now, it's hard to imagine a time when we didn't have internet. The modern world just wouldn't function anymore.

  2. The internet is probably one of, if not the best invention that we've made. Like you've described, it's incredibly useful.

  3. The internet really has become part of our lives, I don't think society could ever revert back to the time when the internet didn't exist.
